But it is still a school, and you still have to go to classes, and I still dont really like math so much. (I am also still an MIT student, so I was really excited when, while working on the first problem set, I had a lightbulb moment on Part II, problem 2b.) But hey! Please dont worry about that! This is just me talking here. Go find someone else who adores/adored 18.01. Im not being sarcastic when I say that Im sure there are plenty of them. =) Personally though, Im just going to skip right along to. 7.012, which is the introductory level biology class taught by the famous Eric Lander, who did so much work on the Human Genome Project that Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people of our time. Thats pretty cool. Anyway, this is just a basic, introductory level bio class with a focus on (what else?) genetics. What I really want to talk about though, is 3.091, or, as some like to call it, 3.09-fun. Clever, isnt it? (By the way, heres a general rule to pronouncing MIT numbers: the number before the decimal point should be read as one word, i.e. 18 is eighteen not one eight. Numbers after the decimal do not follow any remotely logical rule or pattern. 7.012 is seven oh one two, but 5.111 is five eleven one and not five one one one or five one hundred eleven or, God forbid, five one eleven. For example, Edwards repeatedly preaches about how each man walks on God's thin hand, which is all that holds the man above the fiery lakes of Hell. If the man becomes or is a sinner, God releases the man into Hell, not because of His wrath, but because the man has chosen his own path by his sins. Edwards' God seems, in fact, to be somewhat indifferent towards the fate of each human and only releases or embraces the man when his actions warrant it. God plays no part in the fate of men. ?Your wickedness makes you as it were heavy as lead, and to tend downwards with great weight and pressure towards Hell.? Edwards implies that no matter how righteous or healthy a man is, wickedness counts for more in the eyes of an angry God. Each transgression adds weight to the sinner's shoulders, and when God releases the man to Hell's fiery depths, his good qualities weaken under the burden of the sins and can no longer hold him out of the pits of Hell. Edwards compares the fragility of a man's righteousness and the weight of his sins to a spider's web trying to hold up a heavy rock. Both are futile attempts that will only end in the rock's fast descent to the earth. Whatever the situation, no man wants to suffer the wrath of God. According to Edwards, ?the wrath of God is like great waters that are dammed for the present,? rising higher and higher until they are released and flow slowly over. As the water continues to fl ow, it becomes stronger and more powerful to the point where it overcomes the lives of men. However, until evil and wickedness surface in Puritan society, His vengeance remains trapped behind His hand, rising and gathering, much like the guilt of sinners. If God decides to release His floodgate, all dishonorable men will be swallowed by wrath and descend to fire and brimstone. Edwards was a powerful, persuasive speaker, and each dark metapho r created fear that was great enough to convince his audience never stray off of the path to the gates of Heaven. The foreign exchange risks states the variation in the prices of currency will have a tendency to convert a profitable deal to a loss making one. If the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. The wisdom of this old adage is just as applicable in risk management. IFM provides a variety of hedging techniques to control foreign exchange exposure since it jeopardizes profitability of all firms. They consider any use of risk management tools, such as forwards, futures and options that previously were virtually unknown. Financial innovation has played a role in promoting this unexpectedly good economic performance. At the same time, IFM has helped to raise global growth and to have made the economy more flexible and more resilient. Conclusion The foremost rapid changes in IFM have been the accelerating globalisation and integration. These developments have been fostered by the liberalisation of markets, rapid technological progress and major advances in telecommunications. Further the scope of IFM has widened its horizon with mechanism supported by multilateral trade agencies like WTO- and regional blocks like ASEAN, NAFTA, EU etc and the emergence of innovative financial instruments. In view of globalization and its impact on the economy of the world, it is pertinent to note that the theory and practice of IFM is in consonance with the tax environment, legal obligations, foreign exchange rates, interest rate fluctuation, capital market movements, inflationary trends, political risk and country risk, micro and macroeconomic environment changes, ethical constraints etc. These problems can be managed through proper adaptation of IFM methodologies. IFM is crucial to the success of every multinational business because the increase in complication and challenges for managers. The current scenario and outlook for evolution of the IFM registered sharp deterioration over the last years. To a great extent, the unfavorable environment is a result of cutbacks in net inflows of private capital. Among the factors responsible one could list the slow pace of world economic recovery, particularly in the United States in the wake of the 2007 recession; Ponzi scheme frauds; forecasts of lower business profits; reductions in consumer confidence; and accentuated growth in risk aversion on the part of investors.
